Obituary for Jerry Sanders

Mr. Jerry Curtis Sanders, age 66, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (April 11, 2017) at his home. Born September 26, 1950 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Estil and Goldie Compton Sanders. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Baptist faith. A disabled coal miner, he enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, “ginsenging”, and hunting mushrooms. He loved attending ballgames and was an avid Honaker Tiger fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Sanders, and one brother, James Sanders.
Survivors include five children, Renee Wallace and husband, John of Honaker, Michelle Calhoun and husband, Jamie of Lebanon, Nichole Sanders of Honaker, Tim Sanders of Honaker, and James Hall and wife, Amy of Kentucky; two sisters, Evelyn Nash and husband, Phillip and Judy Israel and husband, Bill all of Honaker; three brothers, Larry Sanders of Honaker, Allen Sanders of Lebanon, and Harley Sanders and wife, Lou of Tazewell; thirteen grandchildren, and several nieces, and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Kenneth Taylor officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Sanders Cemetery in the Stinson Ridge section of Rowe, Virginia. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession.
Pallbearers will be Tim Sanders, Jamie Calhoun, Dustin Sanders, Jason Israel, Jacob Sims, Connor Wallace, and Andrew Calhoun.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Wednesday.
